Cyberbullying Awareness

In an effort to educate the community about the perilous effects of cyberbullying on today’s youth, the firm has joined forces with Beat The Cyberbully. This year, we launched the program at International school of creative sciences and Repton School to in inform parents about the dangers of cyberbullying and the social outcomes for their children’s online interactions. We experienced a high level of interest and engagement with social media participation which widened the outreach of the awareness campaign.

SUWA to fight breast cancer

We have partnered with Al Jalila foundation and pink ribbon crafters to raise awareness on the importance of checkups and early detection. In 2020, we raised 17,000 AED which helped to provide better healthcare for women suffering from breast cancer and support efforts to find a cure.

In line with the UAE’s Green Agenda 2030 and the upcoming COP28 Summit (United Nations Climate Change Conference), United Foods Company is on a mission to create a more sustainable future for our planet. We recognize the impact that our operations have on the environment, and we are constantly striving to reduce our carbon footprint and minimize waste.

Here’s how we are moving forward in our sustainability journey:

– Renewable Energy: We’ve tactically integrated renewable energy sources into our operations, reducing our carbon footprint and reliance on non-renewable resources.

In 2020, we partnered with ‘Yellow Energy’ – a leading provider of renewable energy solutions – to install a 2,000 KW Solar Power Plant on the rooftop of our factory in Jebel Ali. The plant has been operational for over a year now and has reduced our reliance on the grid, resulting in significant cost savings. This project has been a significant milestone in our journey, and we are proud to have taken this step towards a greener future.

– Innovative Waste Reduction: Through cutting-edge technologies, we’re actively recycling and reducing waste across our supply chain, minimizing our environmental impact.

– Eco-friendly Production: Our production processes are designed with the environment in mind, promoting sustainability from the ground up.

– Sustainable Packaging: We understand the crucial role of packaging in reducing waste and pollution. Our ongoing efforts include exploring compostable and biodegradable options, reducing overall packaging usage, and enhancing recyclability.

“At United Foods, it is understood that focusing solely on the bottom line is an outdated mindset. As a member of society, United Foods has a responsibility to ensure the wellbeing of all its stakeholders whilst also protecting the wellbeing of this planet that is shared by all. Simply put, United Foods is committed to growing its business in a responsible manner that benefits its employees, shareholders, partners, customers, community, and the overall environment.

Government Policy and the UAE Energy Goals:
In 2017, the UAE launched the Energy Strategy 2050, which is considered the first unified energy strategy in the country that is based on supply and demand. The strategy aims to increase the contribution of clean energy in the total energy mix from 25% to 50% by 2050 and reduce the carbon footprint of power generation by 70%, thus saving AED 700 billion by 2050. It also seeks to increase consumption efficiency of individuals and corporates by 40%. In line with this national strategy, United Foods has planned and executed a solar plant to utilize renewable energy, reduce carbon emissions, and reap the economic benefits.

United Foods Solar Power Plant:
In 2020, United Foods Company awarded a new large scale solar power project to Yellow Door Energy, a UAE-based sustainable energy provider for businesses. In November 2021, the solar power plant got connected to the DEWA grid with 4,175 Solar Panels producing 3,300 MWh of clean energy. Below are the environmental and economic benefits that were earned as a result of the installed solar plant.

Environment Benefits
– 1,400 tonnes of carbon emissions avoided in the first year
– Over 34,000 tonnes of carbon emissions expected to be avoided over 25 years (system lifetime)
– Equivalent to over 7,400 cars removed from the road over 25 years
– Equivalent to 900,000 tree seedlings planted over 25 years

Economic Benefits:
– Over 50% savings off DEWA’s electricity tariff
– Estimated 25 million AED saved over 25 years
– 20-year lease/contract duration
– Over 700,000 AED saved in the first year of operation”

Drawing from his extensive experience in the F&B manufacturing sector, his valuable insights underscored the industry’s commitment to a sustainable and standardized future. His participation at the event underscored the crucial role of Standards, Regulations, and National Accreditation in fortifying the Quality Infrastructure Ecosystem.

MoIAT organized a technical workshop to mark #worldstandardsday in participation of key strategic partners and stakeholders to highlight efforts to achieve the UN SDGS through national technical committee and the need to boost support for the quality infrastructure ecosystem through standards, regulations and national accreditation.
